Important Questions to Ask Before Having a Breast Augmentation
Breast augmentation is a surgical procedure that places implants underneath the breast tissue or muscles in order to increase the size or enhance the shape of breasts. Those considering breast augmentation surgery should feel completely comfortable and have all of their questions answered before the procedure. If you’re not quite sure what types of questions you should be asking your surgeon, we’ve narrowed down the ones that we’ve found are the most important for you to know.
Here are some of the most important questions you should be asking your surgeon before having a breast augmentation:
Were you professionally trained in the field of plastic surgery?
It is absolutely necessary to confirm that your surgeon is properly trained and certified. Fortunately for us at Allure Plastics, Dr. Walker obtained his B.S in Biology from Birmingham-Southern College, graduating cum laude and was selected as a member of Phi Beta Kappa Society. From there he went on to attend the University of Mississippi School of Medicine. He began his plastic surgery training at St. Louis University in Missouri and returned to Mississippi in 2012 to complete his final two years of Plastic Surgery training at UMMC, where he served as Administrative Chief Resident in the 2013-2014 academic year. UMMC is the only accredited training program for plastic surgeons in the state of Mississippi. Dr. Walker is experienced and passionate about his career.
Am I the right candidate for breast augmentation surgery?
Although breast augmentation surgery is a personal choice for anyone who is thinking about it, it isn’t for everyone. This procedure is not ideal for those with collagen vascular disease, Body Dysmorphic Disorder, severe fibrocystic changes or atypia, and others. Breast augmentation has a high patient satisfaction rate and is appropriate for individuals who are healthy and have realistic expectations.
Which implant type is best for me?
There are two different materials to choose from when selecting breast implants: silicone or saline. The answer depends on your desired outcome following breast augmentation. Silicone gels implants tend to closely resemble that of natural breast tissue, while saline implants provide a firm look and feel that some individuals find desirable.
What should I expect for my results?
Results vary for all individuals, especially depending on the size of the breast implants. Our goal at Allure Plastics is to give your breasts the fullness and shape that you desire while maintaining a natural, aesthetically pleasing appearance of your breasts and balance to your body proportions.
What is the recovery period like?
After a breast augmentation, the pain is considered mild to moderate and can be well-controlled by medication. Any sort of strenuous activity should be avoided after surgery. You will also be asked to wear a supportive bra during this time period, which will both help control swelling and support the breasts as they heal.
